Collaboration with the Government

Ciment Català aims to promote the continuous improvement of the environmental behavior of the associated cement manufacturing facilities, apply the bestavailable technologiesin the manufacturing processes, prevent and reduce pollution, and to promote co-processing through the useof waste in cement plants with the aim of contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the sustainable use of natural resources, the optimization of mobility and the Circular Economy.

Voluntary agreements are an appropriate instrument for achieving these goals, and are based on the collaboration between the Environmental Administration (the Generalitat, in the case of Catalonia) and the companies, in line with the European Union environmental policy. Within this framework, on March 1, 2002, both parties signed a first collaboration agreement, which after its extension was replaced by another agreement, signed on December 15, 2011.

At last, the III Voluntary Agreement, signed on July 6, 2017between the Generalitat and Ciment Català has as primary objectives the protection of the environment, the promotion of measures that make possible the transition of the sector to a Circular Economy in agreement with the EU Commission Action Plan and the improvement of public information onenvironmental impact of the activity of the cement industry.

This pact establishes up to 48 specific actions for the pollution prevention, reduction and controlthat must be implemented in the Catalan cement factories withinthe next 4 years.
