Catalonia's public works tendering
For the first time since 2010, public works tenders in Catalonia exceeded the €3 billion annual barrier and stood at €3,349 million. The significant increase of 61% compared to the previous year can be explained by the fall experienced in 2020 as a result of the health emergency, but also by the greater budgetary resources available to public administrations as a result of the arrival of the European Next Generation funds.
In this regard, it is worth highlighting the 78% increase in municipal tenders, which, with €1,772 million, represents more than half of the total amount tendered. For its part, the Spanish government regained its investment momentum and tendered 123% more than in 2020. Even so, state public tenders accounted for only 22% of the total amount.
By destination, civil works registered a clearly higher increase than construction, in line with the recovery of investment in infrastructure, many of which are linked to mobility, environmental, energy and ecological transition projects.
