Quarries restoration
The exploitation of quarries to obtain limestone, which is the basis for cement, entails environmental impacts. Therefore all the quarries have integrated restoration plans for the affected areas, which consist of rehabilitating the areas as the quarrying ceases, and which include the evaluation of these projects by the Public Administration.
The cement industry's commitment to the preservation and recovery of natural spaces was once again evident in 2020. During this financial year, 9 new hectares were added to the total accumulated since 1981. The preservation of biodiversity is one of the essential components of the sustainable management of mining resources, as detailed in this CEMA Foundation Manual.
