Growth despite contracting markets
Despite the high level of technology and automation of the cement manufacturing processes, the Catalan industry continued to generate quality employment during 2022. The 1,150 accumulated jobs represent a growth of 3% compared to the previous year. This statistical advance, which includes both workers hired directly by companies and full-time subcontracted external professions, also occurred in a year where the internal market barely grew and exports fell notably.
On the other hand, it should be noted as the main characteristics of employment in the cement sector job stability (with 92% of permanent contracts), the quality and resilience of the jobs, the experience of the staff (with a high seniority in the company) and the progressive incorporation of women into the sector, which demonstrates a clear example of gender integration. Employment in the Catalan cement industry is stable, well paid and focused on the long term.
