Strong increase in the supply of public works
Strong boost to public works tenders in Catalonia during 2022. The concession of projects increased by 68% in 2022 to reach a value of 5,640 million euros. This significant increase is explained by the fall experienced in 2020 as a result of the health emergency but also by the greater budget availability of governments under the advent of Next Generation European funds.
The growth was widespread in all public administrations. Municipal tenders grew by 35%, those of the Generalitat shot up 91% while those of the State increased by 122%.
However, the increase in the prices of raw materials, energy costs and the rise in interest rates, which made access to credit difficult, caused a significant number of tenders to be abandoned.
By destination, civil works registered an increase clearly higher than construction, practically doubling the volume of investments compared to the previous year.
