An accident rate at minimum levels

The health and safety of workers is a fundamental value for the cement industry, which makes great efforts to be one of the safest labor sectors.According to studies by the Fundación Cema, 90% of the workforces consider that they always or almost always work safely.

The most common temporary incapacity accidents are usually of a minor nature. Musculoskeletal complaints are the most frequent ailments: they affect 66% of workers and generally occur in the upper part of the body. 8 of the 9 psychosocial factors associated with working conditions (workload, autonomy, working time, work variety/content, etc.) are considered "adequate" by most professionals.

All these efforts and investments made by cement companies in Occupational Risk Prevention are endorsed by the excellent annual statistics accumulated. The Accident Frequency Rate with Temporary Incapacity (AFTI) for the sector reached 4.08 in 2023, barely one-sixth of that recorded for Industry as a whole, 88% lower than that of the Construction sector and only one-third of that recorded in Services.

The Temporary Disability Accident Frequency Rate compares the total number of accidents with incapacity to work with the total number of hours worked in a given sector. In the case of the cement sector, this is a result that has improved steadily over the last fifteen years and is gradually bringing factories closer to the goal of zero accidents.
