Permanent interaction with society

Altogether, and also individually, the Catalan cement industry develops a follow-up of relations between the six Interest Groups. As an example, and for each audience, these would be the highlights of 2018:

Industry professionals: Working committees, technical training and edition of a newsletter.
Unions and business committees: Working groups, occupational risk prevention plans and specific training.
Customers: Technical demonstrations, consulting and fairs.
Suppliers: Security plans at the factory and dissemination of technical studies.
Shareholders: Publication of economic and sustainability reports.
Public Administrations: Sector presentations, technical reports, collaboration agreements and the publication of a newsletter.
Universities and the academic world: Business Chairs, financing of research projects and factory visits for students.
Media: regular publication of statistical reports, permanent attention to requested nformation and support to the Catalan Association of Scientific Communication.
Non-Governmental Organizations: Provision ofsector technical information and sponsorships.
Neighborhood associations: factory visits, briefings, permanentcare, participation in monitoring and control commissions and sponsorships.
Citizens: updating the web and editing publications.

Policies related to the different social segments always have an informative function based on transparency and ongoing dialogue, and are aimed at fostering the growth and empowerment of the people, and the progress of society as a whole, within the framework of the sectoral commitment to Sustainable Development.

Information and transparency, the pillars of communication policies

Sustainability Commissions

All cement factories currently operating in Catalonia have the corresponding Sustainability Commission. This working group is made up of representatives from all groups related to the protection of air quality and natural environment of the cement plant surroundings: councilors and municipal environmental technicians, Generalitat de Catalonia, the Business Committee and, in particular, representatives of neighboring entities near the facilities. The Sustainability Commissions combine an informative task about the progress of the respective factory with specific visits to sites and facilities, to get a first-hand look at the operation of production processes and the environmental control and monitoring with which they are carried out.

The citizens of the future

Permanent contact with society can be categorized in two groups. First of all, students of higher education and universities, who are facilitated by the visit to factories to experiment in situ their technical knowledge. Secondly, primary school students: Every year, most of the Catalan quarries celebrate with the schoolchildren in the area, the Day of the Trees, a leisure-formative day that aims to show the extractive processes and participate in the reforestation and restoration of natural enclosures.
