Foreign market

In the previous years, Catalonia has lost its leading possition in cement and clinker exports that had achieved during the 80’s, when foreign market sales surpassed6 million annual tons. Currently, catalan industry is affected by a competitivity problem, due to the energetic costs that bears (Europe’s second highest electricity price),that limits the access to international market.

Situation has worsen as a consequence of the great increase in CO2 emission permit prices, that has increased fourfold in the last two exercises. Countries out of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission trading system –mainly Asia and America –can produce at a cheaper price. In the last year, catalan exports have reduced by 4%.
