Quarries restoration
Exploitation of quarries to obtain limestone, the basisof cement, entails environmental impacts. For this reason, all quarries have integrated restoration plans for the affected areas, which consist in rehabilitating the areas as the exploitation ceases.
Cement industry's commitment for the preservation and recovery of natural areas is again evident in 2019. During this year, 58 new restored hectares were added to the total accumulated since 1981. Biodiversity preservation is one of the essential components of sustainable management of mining resources, as it is outlined in theCEMA Foundation Handbook.
