• The Board of Directors of Ciment Català met with the new Director General of Climate Change and Environmental Quality of the Generalitat, Sonsoles Letang, to advance the establishment of the objectives of the IV Voluntary Agreement. This agreement will primarily aim to promote measures to achieve climate neutrality and contribute to the fight against global warming.

The working session between the Generalitat and the Board of Directors of Ciment Català, led by its president, Salvador Fernández Capo, began with a review of the sector’s situation, its decarbonization plans, and the measures being implemented to apply the principles of the circular economy. Industry representatives expressed the need for the Generalitat to streamline administrative processes to achieve the objectives set on the path to climate neutrality.

In this regard, the usefulness of the Next Generation EU Funds was evaluated, highlighting the opportunities these resources offer for the transformation and modernization of the sector. The importance of accelerating the application and allocation processes for this funding was emphasized to ensure that companies can implement projects that contribute to the green transition and the improvement of energy efficiency.

Regarding the continuation of the work started two decades ago and the signing of a fourth Voluntary Agreement, four strategic objectives have been defined. The first is to reduce the impact of diffuse particles, minimizing the negative effects on air quality. Additionally, it is planned to expand the energy recovery of waste and increase material recovery, with the aim of achieving significant savings in fossil fuels and stone resources, while promoting the circular economy. Finally, it was agreed that all measures included in this future IV Voluntary Agreement will focus on reducing CO₂ emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels, in line with the guidelines of the Roadmap with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
