A delegation from Ciment Català, led by President Salvador Fernández Capo, together with the Gremi d’Àrids de Catalunya, held a meeting on September 9 with the President of Port of Barcelona, Damià Calvet, focused on exploring new lines of cooperation to increase efficiency in the use of resources and the transition towards a circular economy. The work session dealt mainly with the supply of stone resources to cover the needs of the Barcelona port, which is a major consumer of this raw material in its works.
The three entities agreed on the strategic importance of these natural resources not only for the development of port infrastructure, but also for the contribution of these maritime facilities to the country’s economy. In addition to being the recipient of material for its works, Port de Barcelona has been the exit door for a good part of Catalan cement exports for many years, so its good infrastructural endowment also helps the industry’s competitiveness of the cement.
The long relationship of collaboration between the three entities is now oriented towards the development of more sustainable port facilities, at the service of logistics and the productive economy. The contribution of stone resources and cement and derivatives is key in this commitment, which will ensure, both in the short, medium and long term, efficiently from all points of view of the basic pillars of sustainability (environmental, economic and social) and increasingly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, such as CO2, into the atmosphere.
