On June 19, in an event organized by the Government of Catalonia and Fundación CEMA, the directors of the four Catalan cement plants will take part in the conference Climate Neutrality in the Catalan Cement Industry, a key meeting to analyse the challenges and opportunities the sector faces in the context of the ecological transition.

The central event of the conference will be the presentation by the directors of the four cement plants in Catalonia of the decarbonisation projects being promoted at each of their production sites. The speakers will be:

  • Juan Carlos Sánchez Buitrago, director of the Alcanar plant (Cemex España)
  • Joan Carles Izquierdo Guasch, director of the Santa Margarida i els Monjos plant (Grupo Cementos Portland Valderrivas)
  • Xavier Valero López, director of the Sant Vicenç dels Horts plant (Molins)
  • Vicente Pedro Salvá, director of the Montcada i Reixac plant (Holcim España)

Through their presentations, attendees will gain first-hand insight into the strategies being implemented by the Catalan cement sector to reduce CO₂ emissions, incorporate clean technologies, improve energy efficiency, and move towards a production model aligned with the European Union’s climate neutrality goals.

The conference program, supported by Ciment Català, includes the participation of trade union and industry representatives from the Catalan cement sector. Scheduled attendees include José Javier Yáñez Álvarez, Environmental Delegate of CCOO del Hábitat; Antonio Rudilla Vega, Secretary General of UGT FICA Catalunya; and Albert Avellaneda Bargués, Director of Ciment Català. The event will be hosted by Dimas Vallina García, Managing Director of Fundación CEMA.

The event will conclude with a speech by Sonsoles Letang Jiménez de Anta, Director General of Climate Change and Environmental Quality at the Government of Catalonia, co-organizer of this professional summit. Following her intervention, there will be a networking and interaction space for attendees, accompanied by a closing cocktail.
