The Catalan cement industry has reiterated its desire for excellence in environmental management and is positioned as a benchmark in the prevention and control of emissions. Violeta Vargas, of the Technical Services of Ciment Català, presented the results that endorse this commitment during the Technical Conference on the situation of the integrated environmental inspection and the REDIA network of environmental inspection organized on May 24, 2019 by the Management General of Environmental Quality and Climate Change of the Generalitat. The event brought together about 300 people in Barcelona, who debated and presented practical cases on monitoring and environmental monitoring of industrial facilities, implemented in Catalonia since 2014.
During his participation in the conference, Vargas highlighted the complexity that environmental management poses for cement factories, motivated by the size of the facilities, which can add up to 150 items to evaluate. However, the results of the 18 inspections carried out in the 2014-2018 period confirmed the high level of rigor of the sector, which has not had a single relevant breach during the period.
In the case of cement factories, environmental inspections cover areas such as water consumption, energy and raw materials, wastewater management, waste production and management, emissions to the atmosphere, or noise pollution. and light. In spite of this wide range of controls, the requirement with which professionals and companies manage the cement plants defines a sector committed to the environment, with the results of inspections at the facilities always positive.
