The selection of a cement type for different uses and types of exposure must follow the appropriate standards and / or valid regulations
In accordance with the current Cement Reception Instruction (RC-16), only cements legally marketed in Spain, European Union States or part of the Agreement on the European Economic Area and those with a customs association agreement with the European Union can be used. Consequently, cements must be subject to Regulation (EU) Nº. 305/2011 and, if applicable, Royal Decree 1313/1988, which declares homologation as mandatory for the cement intended for the manufacture of concrete and mortar for all types of works and prefabricated products, and provisions that develop it.
Reference standards for cements subject to CE marking
Common cements are those defined in standard UNE-EN 197-1. It includes 27 common cements, 7 common sulfate-resistant cements, as well as 3 low-strength blastfurnace cements of which 2 of them are sulfate resistant.
Reference standards for cements subject to Royal Decree 1313/1988
The cements subject to Royal Decree 1313/1988 are all those which present additional characteristics of resistance to sulfates, resistance to sea water or whiteness, as well as those with special characteristics whose characteristics are not defined by any harmonized European standard.
