A series of conjunctural factors have favored the consumption of cement in Catalonia during the month of March which, with 169 thousand tons, has grown 30.7% compared to a year ago.
This remarkable increase is explained by the sum of the two macro-works of the Baix Llobregat (the Amazon center and the railroad shuttle), and particularly in the absence of Easter in March (which occurred in 2016) and by the good climatology.
In fact, the level reached is the best monthly record of the Catalan industry since October 2012, and confirms a certain recovery of the market during the last months.
The volume of production of the Ciment Català associated companies has also improved, which has exceeded 293 thousand tons per month, an increase of 12.3%. Exports also increased by 10.3%, reaching 311 thousand tons.
Despite the good news of recent months, manufacturing companies are still a long way from a decade ago. In terms of consumption, the current domestic market barely represents 21% of what it was in 2007. It is the sales in foreign markets that allow to sustain, to a large extent, the industrial activity in Catalonia.
