Ciment Català was present last July 3 at the “Industrial decarbonization: a priority for Catalonia” Conference, organized by the Rovira i Virgili University (URV), the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research (ICIQ), the Eurecat technology center and the Chemical Business Association of Tarragona (AEQT), gathered more than a hundred people in Tarragona. Representatives of the Catalan government, companies and scientific and technological agents showed their commitment to work together to accelerate a process that should allow progress towards climate neutrality and preserve industrial competitiveness and associated jobs.
The leader of CEMEX’s CO2 projects in Spain, Javier Uría, represented Ciment Català in the first round table of the day, which dealt with the industrial perspective of decarbonisation. The cement industry in Catalonia maintains its determination to achieve zero net emissions throughout the entire cement and concrete value chain. This has materialized through the Roadmap to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The sector’s investments in environmental issues over the last two decades, including this objective, has been more than 160 million euros.
Other issues that were addressed during the session were the trends in industrial decarbonisation, the challenges and lines of action of the Catalan industries that are difficult to decarbonise and the situation of the scientific and technological potential.
The event also had the intervention of the Secretary of Business and Competitiveness of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Albert Castellanos, and the general director of Environmental Quality and Climate Change, Mireia Boya.
