Ciment Català was present on June 21 and 22 at the 1st Circular Catalonia Congress, organized by the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat of Catalonia. It is an annual meeting of the various actors, both from the public and private sectors, committed to the consolidation of the circular economy in Catalonia, which should allow for the establishment of a solid alliance and the cohesion of a unique country strategy to achieve a Catalonia circular

In this sense, the cement sector is at the forefront of applying the principles of the circular economy. Building demolitions or scrap slag are used as raw materials, and it is also innovative in the energy utilization of waste, based on the experiences of countries as committed to environmental protection as Germany, Holland or Austria.

During the congress, visibility was given to the different strategies, initiatives and success stories on how the circular economy and innovation provide competitive advantages for companies, institutions and the country as a whole. If the first day, held in the CosmoCaixa auditorium in Barcelona, consisted of conferences and round tables in which spokespeople from companies, organizations and institutions took part, in the second, technical visits were carried out to cases of success focused on circular models such as circular design, circularity of products and recycling.

Thus, the representatives of Ciment Català had the opportunity to tour the new plant for the production of biodegradable and biocompatible bioplastics from organic waste of VENVIROTECH, in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, and the HERCAL plant for the recovery of waste from the construction, excavation and demolition to obtain recycled aggregate as secondary raw material, located in Terrassa.
