The new regulations and legislation in the matter of waste planned by the administrations, such as the moratorium on new procedures until the preparation of the Plan for the closure of incinerators, or the draft law on prevention and management of waste, make the main cement manufacturers a more than likely relocation of the sector. This was one of the conclusions reached by the Monitoring Commission of the agreement on the sustainable use of resources, the protection of the environment and the health of people and the improvement of the competitiveness of the cement sector (CASA Catalunya), in the last meeting held on March 2.
In contrast to this concern of the sector, during the meeting it was evident the multitude of resources that the cement factories are dedicating to decarbonisation, and there was a debate on the situation of waste valorisation, both in terms of Catalonia and the rest of Spain, as well as the Integrated Environmental Authorizations. Information was also given on the main projects of the CEMA Foundation for this year: informative material for schools and institutes or audiovisuals that deal with equality, among other initiatives.
Finally, and with regard to the different flows of specific waste, the global values of the last year in Catalonia and the different actions of the cement factories to take advantage of the Urban Solid Waste were made known and the importance of the plants was highlighted of drying.
The representation of CASA Catalunya was headed by the managing director of Fundación CEMA, Dimas Vallina, and formed by trade union and business representatives of the Catalan cement industry, including Ciment Català.
