Ciment Català has been present at the 6th edition of the Circular Economy Hotspot (CEH), which has been held between September 12 and 14 in the old mining town of Bottrop, in North Rhine-Westphalia. The CEH is the European event of reference in circular economy, where an international public participates in itineraries throughout the territory and in talks on key challenges in circularity, such as business leadership, financing and technological innovations.
The representatives of the Association of Cement Manufacturers of Catalonia have been part of the select Catalan delegation, led by the Generalitat and the Catalan Waste Agency, which has participated in this prestigious international event. With this presence at the CEH, the sector reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting measures that favor its transition towards a circular economy. In this sense, the Roadmap for carbon neutrality in 2050 published by Ciment Català anticipates a set of actions to be implemented, such as an increase in the use of waste both to reduce the exploitation of natural raw materials and to save fuel consumption fossils in cement kilns.
Since 2016, world-renowned experts and delegates from business, politics, the academic and scientific world and promoters of public initiatives meet each year at the CEH in European locations that change annually, highlighting the business models, strategies and approaches of the respective host regions. The focus is on regional companies that have already successfully established circular processes and solutions.
In this year’s edition, the Catalan delegation has made a guided tour of the Bottrop coal mine and different local industries, and has participated in talks, workshops and discussion panels on the circular economy. Shortly, the group of attendees from Catalonia will meet to share the different observations regarding the event and to continue working in the same direction, given that there is much work to be done in this area.
