In its line of information transparency and activity in the defence and representation of the sectorial interests of the associated companies, Ciment Català has continued its institutional action during the last month of November with a round of interviews with representatives of the public administrations. On this occasion, the representatives of the Catalan employers’ association held working sessions with Albert Castellanos, Secretary for Business and Competitiveness of the Generalitat of Catalonia; Imma Mayol, director of the Ecology Area of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona; and Àngels Chacón, general secretary of the PdeCAT – Democratic Party.

In all cases, the Ciment Català delegation has informed the interlocutors of the sectoral situation, marked by a certain recovery of the cement market at pre-pandemic levels, but also affected by the large increase in production costs due to the excessive rise the price of electricity and the high amount of CO2 emission rights. Likewise, future projects for the cement industry in Catalonia have also been presented, the most significant of which – due to its relevance and the investment it will entail – is the implementation of the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality. This initiative foresees the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions through the application of measures that range from the energy recovery of waste to the capture and storage of carbon, through the manufacture of cements with low clinker content or the use of alternative raw materials decarbonated.

In all three cases, political representatives and public administrations have expressed their adherence and support to the continuity of the cement factories in Catalonia, both for their condition of engine of economic activity and for their leadership when undertaking and applying solutions in the fight against Climate Change.
