The Cambra de Contractistes d’Obres de Catalunya (CCOC) and Ciment Català, represented respectively by the president Lluís Moreno Lasalle and by the director Ana Salgado, held a work session on March 7, mainly aimed at analysing the current situation of the construction sector in Catalonia. The sectoral situation is strongly marked by the lack of execution of public works, a problem that aggravates the chronic situation of deficit in infrastructure bids in the country. Both the CCOC and Ciment Català directly suffer the consequences of this low volume of investment in the construction and maintenance of facilities, which is pronounced in the areas of the water cycle, citizen mobility and energy.
Both entities agreed to promote joint work to recover the level of public works activity. On the one hand, highlighting how the availability of well-sized and modern infrastructure helps the competitiveness of the country and its companies. On the other hand, highlighting the economic and social costs of the lack of attention to this need, from the number of hours of work lost to the worsening of critical problems such as drought. Finally, both organizations want to highlight that the lack of infrastructure in good condition reduces the quality of life and well-being of citizens, affecting the provision of public services and the progress of the economy.
CCOC and Ciment Català finally agreed by insisting to public administrations that the delay in the bidding and execution of infrastructure projects also entails damage to global commitments such as the fight against Climate Change, while slowing down development. of Catalonia in areas such as innovation or foreign capital investment.
