Ciment Català has edited and published the digital version in Catalan of the work ” De Architectura by Marcus Vitruvius _ Pollio , 1st-century BC architect, engineer and writer. This treatise is considered the first book on construction of which there is news.
The adaptation that is now coming to light is available online for free and has taken the 1989 edition as a reference, although the texts and images that illustrate it have been completely revised. Some errors in the text have also been corrected, the writing style has been very punctually retouched and some parts that had not been in the correct order of chapters and sections have been adapted.
Until now, the only existing version of the work in Catalan was printed in 1989, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the Agrupació de Fabricants de Ciment de Catalunya. The translation of the 10 books and 242 pages of which the work consists was made based on original texts in Latin, and not from translations into other languages, in order to try to achieve a document that is as faithful as possible to the original. At that time, 30 copies were published with Roman numerals, 200 copies with Arabic numerals and the rest, up to 1,000 in total, without numbering. Currently, this circulation is practically exhausted.
The will of the Agrupació de Fabricants de Ciment de Catalunya is to launch a printed edition in the future, not for sale, as this is and was the original, to disseminate a document of unquestionable interest to our culture and to express its contribution and commitment to the sector and the community it serves.
Marcus Vitruvius Pollio was born around the year 75 B.C. C., and died around the year 10 BC He was, without a doubt, a very prominent figure and what he left us is the first written document of which there are traces of architecture and engineering in its various branches, since then there was no such distinction. clear as now between different professions and trades.
