Ciment Català was part of the Catalan delegation that participated in the 7th edition of the Circular Economy Hotspot (CEH), which took place in Dublin between May 29 and June 1. The CEH is an international event that brings together conferences, talks, tours, workshops and thematic insights on the circular economy to guide attendees through the practical steps and resources to drive more sustainable development.

The assistance to the CEH of the Agrupació de Fabricants de Ciment de Catalunya, in the context of the Catalan delegation, responds to its spirit of continuing to promote measures that favor the transition towards a circular economy and to advance the knowledge of these business models and their implementation strategies. The reuse of waste – either through material or energy recovery – and the reduction of the environmental footprint of industrial activities define, to a large extent, the principles of action of the circular economy.

The Catalan delegation was formed by Mireia Boya, Director General of Environmental Quality and Climate Change (DACC), Isaac Peraire, director of the Department’s Waste Agency of Catalonia (DACC) and Francesc Claret, head of the Delegation of the Generalitat of Catalonia in the United Kingdom and Ireland, among other representatives of the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda and of ACTION.

The representatives of Ciment Català took the opportunity to speak with the organizers of Santiago de Chile and obtain information about the content of the CEH that will be held in that country in November. They also participated in the visit to the COVANTA plant (Dublin Waste to Energy) where the process of generating energy in the form of electricity and/or steam from the combustion of non-recyclable waste is shown.
