The Grouping of Cement Manufacturers of Catalonia (Ciment Català), together with more than 300 other entities, has adhered to the Manifesto It’s enough, let’s focus on the recovery promoted by the economic, cultural and social world of Catalonia to condemn acts of vandalism of the last weeks and in defense of imminent solutions that help progress and the resumption of economic activity. This Manifesto demands responsibility from the Government of the Generalitat and the Barcelona City Council and offers full support to the security forces.

After several weeks of serious acts of violence and looting in Barcelona and other parts of the country, Catalan businessmen have demanded solutions from the public powers, through an act held on March 4 at Barcelona’s North Station. The event was led by the presidents of the employers’ associations Foment del Treball, Josep Sánchez Llibre, and Pimec, Antonio Cañete, and in its course it was stated that “the vandalism of these days and the images that have been offered to the world compromise the future Barcelona and Catalonia. Not only do they affect public and private property with serious and very important damage, but they are also the worst claim for foreign investment”.

The document signed and to which Ciment Catalàhas adhered recalls “the commitment to recover a civic, dialoguing, cultured, tolerant Barcelona and Catalonia and economic engines and social cohesion. And, also, to continue working to improve the quality of life, the attractiveness, competitiveness and international projection of Catalonia and its economic and cultural capital”.

Also, in a more practical sense, it urges “to form the new Government without delay: a stable, cohesive and active government whose main objective is the economic recovery of the crisis caused by the pandemic”. Along these lines, “a Government is required that defends the productive economy, employment and the welfare state; that places economic recovery and social cohesion as its main objective.”
