The Secretary of Territory and Mobility of the Catalan government, Isidre Gavín, accompanied by the general director of Ports, Pere Vila, has held an informative and working session with a representation of the companies grouped in Ciment Català during a visit to the facilities of the Alcanar cement factory. The sectoral representatives explained to the delegation of the Generalitat the situation of the production plants, the actions necessary and developed to make the industry more competitive, as well as those related to the improvement of its environmental behavior in the context of the III Voluntary Agreement between the sector and the Generalitat, currently in force.

In this framework, they demanded from the leaders of the Government a decided commitment to the investment and construction of the infrastructures that the country needs to be competitive, such as those that facilitate the mobility of people and goods and promote economic activity, as well as support for policies that facilitate exports, all within the framework of sustainability and the application of the principles of the circular economy. An area, the latter, in which the Catalan cement factories are pioneers and very proactive, since they do not produce waste and are capable of recover materially and energetically, in a safe way for health and the natural environment, a lot of waste that they would have as the only alternative is incineration or landfill.

In these joint sessions, senior leaders are invited to live the direct experience of the operation of a cement factory, in what constitutes an exercise of information transparency in the sector, as well as through local sustainability commissions. The sectoral representatives took the opportunity to remind the Generalitat of the importance of the cement industry, in turn centenary and key to the development of a sustainable future, in the country’s economic activity. They also reported on the actions planned in the Roadmap 2050 to move towards the decarbonization of the sector.
