The Board of Directors of Ciment Català , headed by its president Salvador Fernández Capo, has analysed the decarbonization process of the sector in a work session with the minister of the Department of Territory of the Generalitat, Ester Capella. The meeting, held on January 31, was attended by Joan Jaume, general secretary of the Department, and focused especially on the implementation of measures that facilitate the path towards climate neutrality that the Catalan cement industry has set itself as a goal for 2050.
In addition to this central issue, the meeting also served to highlight the difficulties that the sector is experiencing due to the poor execution of public works. For the representatives of Ciment Català , the lack of construction and maintenance of infrastructure not only affects the sales of companies, but also generates problems for society, especially and at the current time in the areas of mobility and transportation and water cycle.
The regulatory impediments that cement factories currently have when it comes to expanding the quantity and variety of products, they can use to avoid the consumption of fossil fuels and thus contribute to the fight against Climate Change were also examined. This situation puts it in inferior conditions in terms of competitiveness with other factories in the state.
The energy recovery of waste is one of the principles of the Circular Economy and a solution to the problem of the dumping of these materials and the consequent environmental effects that it causes.
