Ciment Català participated on June 20 at the Center for Contemporary Culture in Barcelona in the recognition ceremony for the organizations that have joined the Program of voluntary agreements for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) over the last five years. Representatives of the Association of Cement Manufacturers of Catalonia received from the Minister of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, David Mascort, the certificate attesting to their commitment to monitor their GHG emissions and establish annually measures to reduce them. The event was also attended by the general director of Environmental Quality and Climate Change, Mireia Boya.
Currently, 242 organizations from different sectors of activity are part of this program. More than two-thirds are private companies, the vast majority, SMEs, and a third are public administration entities and non-profit organizations. In 13 years, 242 organizations have joined, many of which have opted for actions aimed at the implementation of renewable energies and the reduction of energy consumption. The Catalan government estimates that, between 2015 and 2021, 463,596 tonnes of CO2 have been reduced if we add up the year-on-year variation in direct emissions and electricity consumption of the organizations participating in the programme.
Ciment Català joined the program in the fall of 2020, given that, in addition to recognition, it also offers tools and support to those organizations that voluntarily want to get involved in reducing their GHG emissions, which are responsible of global warming.
